Howard J. Pfeffer on Practicing Family Law

Going through a divorce, or any family law problem, usually causes very high stress, second only to the stress caused by the death of a close family member. Attorneys with experience in family law can help you through this very challenging period.

What can you learn from us? What insights or considerations can help you? Set forth below are the philosophical "Principles" which govern how we practice family law, from your first consultation to final settlement or trial of your case:

1. Before retaining an attorney, we recommend joint family counseling. In some cases, counseling may resolve difficulties between you and your spouse.

2. We review each case thoroughly, to try to resolve all issues as promptly as possible. With good faith and open minds, most situations are resolved promptly, amicably and inexpensively.

3. If not promptly settled, we engage in a sensible course of litigation, tailored to your particular facts and circumstances.

4. We will keep you informed as to the status of your case. We send you copies of all letters, pleadings and documents. We return all calls as promptly as possible. You make all decisions regarding settlement or trial positions in your case, with the help of your attorney.

5. Most importantly, we will try to obtain the best possible result for you, our client.
